This is my planter that I made on the wheel, it' s the first planet I have made. It stands at five inches tall and just over 4 and a half inches wide. For the glaze i dipped the bottom in green and left a little room for the glaze to run. I then dipped the top in black to add some diversity. During the construction of this project i learned how to pull a tall middle piece and then make the outer area look good. I had to learn all the techniques to making a planter. The shape of my planter and really any planters are quite cool and unique because of the two parts they contain. It makes it so it doesn't look as simple as a bowl or cylinder. The color is also big in my project because the green and black sort of contrast each other but it works well. When I look at this project I get two different feelings. The green reminds me of algae or moss, but the black is thrown in and has a different effect.
For my first choice project I made a pinch pot dog. My dog stands at 5 inches tall and 4 inches wide. For the glaze I dipped the whole project in white and then added metallic brown spots all over. However the brown was not enough and when it mixed with the white it came out green. During the construction of this pinch pot I got to practice sculpting a little bit by forming the face. I also got to learn how to connect 2 separate pinch pots as a connected the nose of the dog. The form of the dog is the defining point because it shows what my pinch pot is. The color is also clear where the green spots show up. When I look at my dog it seems relieving because I like animals so it's calming. I learned that I really do like making pinch pots and I much prefer doing those rather than being on the wheel.
This is my lidded project that I made on the wheel out of clay. The bottom is made out of red clay and the top is normal clay. It stands at a little over 4 inches tall and almost 4 inches wide.. I started by dipping the bottom, the base, into clear glaze because I liked the way the reddish clay looked. I dipped the top in white because I liked the way the contrast looked. The light top went well with the dark bottom. While making this project I learned how to make a lid, and style it to make it unique. I had never made a lid before so this was new to me . The contrast of colors stands out and the form of the lid is probably the main attraction of the project. When I look at the project there is a lot of simplicity. The colors aren't too wild but the lid is unique, and it's sort of an elegant spike at the top.
This is my cup with a handle that I made on the wheel out of clay. It stands at 3 inches tall and 5 inches wide if you include the handle. I started by dipping the whole cup and handle into a blue glaze, then let it dry. Then I used a paint brush to paint on green stripes all down the side. While making this project I got to practice making a large handle and this is something I wasn't good at before. I learned how to better shape the handle. The handle definitely stands out the most because the form is very extravagant and dramatic for the size of the cylinder. When I look at the cup I made it reminds me of candy because of the blue and green mix, so it has a light hearted feel to it. Something that a younger person would enjoy.
This is my cylinder made on the wheel out of clay. It stands at 3 inches tall and 4 inches wide. I started by dipping the bowl in black and covered all of it, then dipped the rim in black and used the dripper tool to add blue and make it drop down from the rim. This is a glazing technique I had not used at all, and I'll use this skill in the future to add more attention to the glaze with the dripper. The color stands out the most because of the cool drops down the side and the black and blue combination make for good harmony because the look soothing together. When I look at the bowl I get a calming vibe, the drips oddly remind me of slow motion because it's as if you can still see the glaze dripping.
This is my group coil pot made by hand with clay. It stands at 2 inches tall and 4 and a half inches wide. We dipped the bowl in dark blue glaze which gives it a darker vibe, and then we went and sponged off some access glaze that was left on. During the construction of this project, I got to practice adding on clay elements like the football on the outside. The form of the pot makes it unique with the rounded clay on the outside in layers, and additional accents. I'd say there is emphasis on the football on the outside, however if could draw attention better if it was a different color. The coil pot has a sporty vibe because of the dark blue color scheme and the football, and it is very sports themed.
This is my second bowl made on the wheel for this semester. It stands at 5 inches tall and 4 and a half inches wide. I started by dipping the bowl in brown to cover it completely, then I added blue lines to the inside. They ended up fading but leaving a hint of color to add some diversity. During the construction of this bowl I definitely learned how to better pull taller walls, and practiced skills or smoothly building up. My favorite aspect of the bowl was the value between the brown on the outside and hints of color on the inside. The difference in the colors working well together shows solid unity within the glaze. The colors are very entatching and give off a dark emotional vibe, and the lines in the inside seem to pull you in.
This is my first bowl made on the wheel for this semester. It stands at 4 inches tall and 4 and a half inches wide. I started by dipping the bowl in black and covered the majority of it in white after, to form a deep blue around the whole bowl. This is a glazing technique I had not known at all, and I'll use this skill for future projects by mixing colors in certain areas to create a deeper feel. The color is definitely the defining aspect of the bowl, as it grabs attention and makes you take another look especially into the inside where the contrast of dark spots show up. The difference in black and blue and the way they go together makes the inside look like a blueberry. The detail in the glaze makes it very soothing to look at, and gives it a calming vibe.
